As a Chicago golfer, we at Golf Now! Chicago love to travel to warm destinations when cabin fever strikes and the winters seems endless. Like many golfers, we also enjoy playing great courses that you don't find at home. So we are excited to tell you about a hidden gem we've discovered, where golfers can "experience the unexpected", known as Quarry Pines Golf Club.
Quarry Pines is located in the town of Marana on the outskirts of Tucson and is easily accessible from both Tucson and Phoenix, off Interstate 10. An evolution in golf course design and pure golf enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels, Quarry Pines is the only quarry golf course in Arizona. It's also one of only seven quarry courses in the country. That's pretty amazing in itself!
Here's a quick history lesson about the golf course. In 2000 a decision was made by the owner of an abandoned sand and gravel quarry and the owner of the adjacent golf course to reclaim the quarry. They both agreed to relocate and rebuild 10 of the existing 18 golf holes into the old quarry and reconfigure the remaining 8 holes. When the transformation was completed, it didn't take Quarry Pines long to quickly become one of Tucson's most beautiful and popular golf courses. When you play Quarry Pines today, you'll golf through a beautiful desert landscape highlighted by dramatic elevation changes. The beauty only continues with mesmerizing mountain views, populated with thousands of new trees and abundant wildlife.
